MOOG TO FOCUS ON ENERGY-SAVING HYBRID MOTION CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES AT SPS/IPC DRIVES SHOW 2011

              11/14/2011

Boblingen, Germany, November 8, 2011 - Moog Industrial Group, a division of Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B), will showcase its latest developments in hybrid solutions, combining hydraulic and electric technology, at the SPS IPC Drives show, located in Nuremburg from November 22-24, 2011.

A key display at the show will be a prototype of a new design concept for Electro Hydrostatic Actuation Systems (EHA). Moog's EHA is ideal for applications that require high force, energy savings, and advanced fail-safe functionality. Typical applications include actuation for wind turbine blades, gas or steam turbines, injection molding machines and metal forming presses.

Moog's innovative EHA concept is a self-contained unit combining several high performance Moog products including a Servo Motor, Hydraulic Pump, Servo Valve, Controller and Software. Unlike an electric actuator, EHA technology requires no screws or gearing and it differs from hydraulic actuators in that it requires no hydraulic piping. One important advantage is that all hydraulic and electric components are integrated in the actuator assembly. Moog's EHA design offers machine builders high energy efficiency and reliability, reduced envelope size, less wear on components and up to 40% less weight. For many applications such as wind turbines, the potential for hydraulic leaks is eliminated thereby improving environmental impact.

Also featured on the Moog booth is another hybrid solution called the Speed Controlled Pump (SCP) System, which is designed for injection and blow molding machine builders. It has been proven to lower energy consumption in hydraulic machines by 30 percent or more when compared to traditional approaches, ultimately helping to reduce the total cost of ownership. The SCP system allows users to control fluid flow by varying the motor and pump speeds. The result is a more energy- efficient system that delivers optimized performance. The SCP system is also compact, simple to integrate into machines, easier to set up and quieter to run for operators.

To see these innovative displays and our high performance Servo drives, Machine and Motion Controllers, and more, please visit Moog at Hall 3, Booth B240.
